PARTNERING FHA FOR HOUSING, PROFESSOR ISHAQ OLOYODE JAMB’S REGISTRAR VISITS FHA

The Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Tuesday, 30^th January, 2024, visited Federal Housing Authority in continuation of discussion in both agencies’ collaboration in housing provision.

The meeting, second since both agencies’ discussion on collaboration in housing provision was to further cement the proposal which will see Federal Housing Authority providing houses for the staff of JAMB in the Authority’s on – going project in Bwari.

Prof Oloyede in his remarks reiterated the readiness of JAMB to key into the project, noting that dealing with FHA was the best among all other options open for the agency. He stated that it is his desire to leave a legacy of helping staff of the organization to own their own houses.

According to him, ‘’I am interested in giving accommodation to staff. It will be good for staff of all levels to have houses of their own when they retire from service’’

The JAMB boss expressed disappointment with what he called ‘’lack of progress’’ after the first meeting with FHA, however ascribed it to going to the wrong place and meeting other irrelevant agencies.

He expressed optimism at the reopening of negotiations on housing JAMB staff and called on the Authority to fully activate the process of achieving JAMB’S request.

In her remarks, the Executive Director Estate Services; Hauwa Babakobi stated the Authority’s readiness to achieve JAMB’S request. She requested JAMB to forward the numbers of its contact persons for immediate interface, while both agencies will set up their various committees that will determine the modalities of realising the request.

On his own part, the Managing Director FHA Mortgage Bank Awwal Hayatuddeen, informed the JAMB Registrar that FHAMB would facilitate the mortgage for the transaction by helping JAMB staff to access NHF equity from the Federal Mortgage Bank. Through this way, JAMB would be able to recoup the initial deposit it would have made. Hayatudddeen noted that FHA Mortgage Bank ranks among the best Mortgage banks in the country.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, thanked Professor Oloyede for keeping faith in the Authority. He also commended him for sharing the same passion for staff welfare, noting that FHA has embarked on the creation of staff villages for the welfare of its workers.

He assured the JAMB chief that everything possible would be done to achieve their demands. While mandating the formation of a committee to drive process, the MD/CE urged JAMB to visit the project sight and see things for himself.

Senator Ashafa also gave JAMB the option of choosing clusters or exclusive areas for themselves within the estate.
