NIGERIAN BROADCASTING COMMISSION VISITS FHA FOR MUTUAL BENEFIT

As part of the efforts to forester strategic partnerships, the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Charles Ebuebe, Tuesday 8th July, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) headquarters in Abuja.
Receiving the NBC delegation the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, emphasized the importance of collaborations in tackling Nigeria’s housing challenges. He noted that strategic alignment among government agencies is crucial for building resilient communities and addressing the dynamic housing needs of the Nigerian people.
Hon. Ojo informed the visitors that FHA is set to roll out housing projects across all 36 states of the federation. According to him, the new initiative focuses on constructing housing units up to the carcass stage, which would be made available to lower-income earners who can access their homes at 50% payment, making home ownership more accessible to ordinary Nigerians.
In his words” As we all know our work is to provide shelter for Nigerians and basically everybody needs shelter at affordable rates. We are aware of the economy which is gradually stabilizing and I always say that the lower income earners need support from the government in providing affordable shelters. We have changed the style of how people can acquire our houses. So instead of paying 100% before occupying the house, we have decided that at 50% payment the new home owner can take possession and then complete payment based on worked out schedule”.
In light of this, Hon. Ojo noted that all NBC needs to do is to identify potential off-takers from within its workforce who could benefit from this housing initiative, a move he said would further strengthen the interagency partnership. “We just need off-takers from you who will benefit from the program once we commence.”
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Ebuebe, expressed appreciation for the FHA’s vision and assured the Authority of the NBC’s commitment to national development. He emphasized the mutual benefits of collaboration between both agencies and pledged NBC’s support in enhancing FHA’s visibility through awareness campaigns, documentaries, and media coverage aimed at promoting the agency’s activities and impact.
According to him, “I am most appreciative of this visit and the fact that I see opportunities which we could explore. I believe we can start this journey not too far from time. We are ready to support in whatever way the NBC can deploy its relationships”. Thank you for receiving us.
The DG also acknowledged that while the NBC is primarily a regulatory body, it maintains strong relationships with numerous partners who would be willing to collaborate in enhancing the visibility and impact of the Federal Housing Authority. These collaborations, he noted, could include the production of documentaries, site visits, broadcasts, and other media initiatives.
“We, as the NBC sit as regulators over the broadcast eco system,” he said, “we are able to activate our role there to help push forward your mandate and objectives in ways we can mutually explore. And also, I believe we can synergize with you through our partners who can produce a documentary featuring your insights, conduct site visits, and much more. There are numerous areas where we can collaborate; we need each other’s support to achieve our goals.
He informed the FHA boss that although the NBC currently operates through 10 zonal and 28 state offices, it does not yet have a presence in all 36 states. However, he noted that with the FHA’s new nationwide housing mandate, the NBC would be better positioned to expand its presence and operations across the country to support such national development efforts.
He said,” it might shock you to know that the NBC doesn’t have presence in every state, we have 10 zonal offices and 28 offices in state. We usually have challenges monitoring transmission whether is radio or tv station and sometimes rely on third party but with this new development we can situate new offices in the rest of the states. This is just the beginning of a very good relationship, thank you”
