The workshop, which focused on health and wellbeing, themed “Wellness and Health Seminar,” was held in partnership with Group Medical Practitioners Nig. Ltd.

The seminar aimed to raise health awareness among staff, helping them understand their long-term well-being and the proactive steps needed to improve productivity and enhance workplace performance.

In his remark at the opening of the event, the Executive Director (Estate Services), Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok expressed gratitude to the Managing Director, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, for his unwavering commitment to staff development. He urged staff to pay close attention to each session and apply the knowledge gained, noting that prioritizing their health is ultimately in their best interest. He further encouraged staff to take advantage of the free medical check-up scheduled to take place at the Authority over the next two days after the Seminar.

While espousing on Preventing Chronic Illnesses, the lead facilitator, Dr. Oshatimi Abayomi Michael, noted that 70% of chronic diseases can be preventable by maintaining simple daily habits such as eating well, exercising, and resting adequately. He underscored the importance of regular medical check-ups to enable early detection and timely treatment, noting that this can help prevent more serious health issues in the future.

Speaking on Diet and Nutrition, the dietician, Mrs. Adaeze Christiana Okorie advised participants to adopt healthier eating habits, stay properly hydrated, and make informed food choices to reduce the risk of lifestyle-related illnesses.

In continuation of the seminar, Dr. Olusegun Shoyombo, who spoke on Stress Management, emphasized that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential to mental well-being and that no aspect of one’s life should be neglected. He encouraged staff to cultivate a positive attitude toward their work and other areas of life.

Staff participation was active, with many asking questions and sharing personal experiences. Participants also commended Management for organizing the seminar, describing it as enlightening and beneficial, and noting that the knowledge gained would help them make healthier lifestyle choices.

The two-day training workshop stands as a testament to Management’s dedication to promoting staff development as a core part of the Authority’s mandate beyond providing housing for Nigerians.
